I totally understand your frustration, Drea. But you also have to understand where General Practitioners are coming from. There's a clinic full of people who are not eating well, aren't exercising, are depressed due to chronic stress, and thereby in a weakened, sicker state.
They're going to the doctor to "get rid of something".
The only way they can overcome this is to learn WHY they are sick in the first place, and then decide that they will take action steps to change.
Nothing in a medical "treatment" will get to the root cause.
General Practitioners know this as well. I have spoken to many who have realized they're not really "healing" anything.
So, the patient who is unaware is looking for a quick fix, and the doctor, who doesn't have time to teach them about these things, (it takes a lot longer than 10 minutes to learn lifestyle choices) just gives them what they want.
This is NOT THE DOCTOR'S FAULT. Their training is only on symptoms, disease, and medical treatments.

Whenever a patient comes to me who is frustrated with their doctor for the same reason, I usually ask them, "what do you expect the doctor will do, other than drugs or surgery?" The response is usually "I don't know."
My response is "they don't know either."
We put doctors on these pedestals, thinking that they know everything about everything.
Doctors get a whopping 6 HOURS on nutrition in medical school! They're not encouraged to give nutritional supplementation, because it reduces the need for pharmaceuticals. There's tons of research to prove this fact.
Most doctors don't recommend chiropractic care, because of very personal reasons, even though the American Medical Association publicly recommends chiropractic care.
Bottom line take home message.
Your health is in YOUR hands. It's not the responsibility of your doctors. Your healing is a journey in self discovery.
Eat well, move well, think well. And make sure you're keeping your nerve system clear of interference!

I think that my biggest frustration with medication is with the ease that doctor's hand it out. I find that instead of doctors promoting a healthy lifestyle and natural alternatives, they would rather just write you a prescription and send you on your way.

What's crazy is when they leave the room and come back with some free samples of something for you to try. To me, this seems like they are promoting the latest and greatest wonder-drug instead of helping you as an individual.
